For Immediate Release - June 22-24, 2007
The WPSA ATV Tour headed back to Daniel Boone in London, Kentucky this past weekend. The track is where it all began last year for the popular ATV series. The race was a double header for the SuperQuad Pro riders and a single event for all other classes. The competition was fierce, but Team Baldwin Motorsports/Kawasaki was determined to better their previous finishes and move further up the series points chase.
The WPSA ATV Series has a three moto format. The first two races are used to determine qualifying position and the main event determines the final finishing order.
Baldwin Motorsports/Kawasaki's Mark Kendall felt strong this past weekend and his results showed it. In his Pro-Am first qualifier, Kendall got off to a second place start behind Jacob Hakala. Greg Gee and Cody Miller won the other two first qualifiers. Kendall went on to take second behind Gee in the second qualifier. Miller and Cory Gauthier won the other second qualifiers.
Miller once again grabbed the early lead in Sunday's Pro-Am main event. Kendall started off the fourth place position, but put forth a tremendous charge. Kendall chased down the leader, but time ran out before he could contend for the win.
WPSA Round 4 Super Quad Pro-Am 450 Results:
Baldwin Motorsports/Kawasaki's Josh Upperman has had some tough first lap experiences this year. The rookie Pro rider has proven that he can be a front runner if he can get out clean. The Pro's ran two qualifiers on Friday for Sunday's first Pro main and two qualifiers on Saturday for Sunday's second main event. The heat combined with the six motos made it an exhausting weekend for the riders.
Upperman rode strong in Friday's first qualifier and finished fourth behind Suzuki's Chad Weinen, Kawasaki's Josh Creamer, and Suzuki's Doug Gust. Honda's John Natalie won the other first qualifier. The second qualifier on Friday was won by Honda's Keith Little. Goodman and Upperman followed. Upperman tried to put a pass on Goodman, but was then unable to make the next jump which allowed Gust and Joe Haavisto to sneak past. Upperman had to settle for fifth. The other second qualifier of the day was won by Natalie.
The two first qualifiers on Saturday were won by Suzuki's Dustin Wimmer and Honda's John Natalie. Upperman was in Wimmer's qualifier and tangled with Russell Shumaker in the first turn. It took two laps for the two to get their quads separated. Upperman made up for it in the second qualifier of the day as he finished in fifth position behind Creamer, Weinen, Wimmer, and Gust. Natalie won the other second qualifier.
When the gates dropped for Sunday's first Pro main event, Upperman got a great start and held down fifth postion for the first five laps of the race. The race was then red flagged due to a wreck on the track that needed medical attention. WPSA rules call for a complete restart of the race. Natalie grabbed the holeshot on the restart. Weinen later passed Natalie to take the lead and the win. Upperman rode an impressive moto to earn a seventh place finish.
WPSA Round 4 Super Quad Pro 450 Results:
The second Pro main event of the day was won by Weinen. He was followed by his teammates Wimmer and Gust. Natalie and Creamer rounded out the top five. Upperman had to work his way up from the rear of the pack. He fought his way back up to thirteen position at the checkers.
