For Immediate Release - June 29 - July 1, 2007
Rounds 6 and 7 of the WPSA ATV Tour were held this past weekend in Virginia. The race was another double header for the Super Quad Pro class and a single event for the Super Quad Pro-Am class. The WPSA ATV Series has a three moto format. The first two races are used to determine qualifying position and the main event determines the final finishing order.
Baldwin Motorsports/Kawasaki's Mark Kendall went into the weekend very confident after a strong finish at the last event. Kendall showcased his skill in the first qualifier as he picked off riders quickly to move up from a fourth place start to take over the lead on the first lap. Soon after, Kendall spun out and found himself back in fifth place, but it didn't take long for Kendall to pass his way back up to the front and take the win. Kendall dominated the second qualifier. He grabbed the holeshot and led every lap of the qualifier to take his second win of the weekend.
Sunday's Pro-Am main event was all Kendall as he grabbed the holeshot and never looked back. At the checkers, Kendall had a huge lead on Josh Williams in second place and Cody Miller in third.
Kendall is now only ten points behind Miller in the Championship series points chase with three rounds remaining.
WPSA Round 5 Super Quad Pro-Am 450 Results:
Baldwin Motorsports/Kawasaki's Josh Upperman competed in a double header. Upperman rode strong in Friday's qualifiers to earn a fifth and a seventh place finish. Suzuki's Dustin Wimmer and Chad Weinen earned the top qualifying positions. These two qualifiers earned starting position for Sunday's first main event.
The two first qualifiers on Saturday were again won by Wimmer and Weinen. Upperman finished in fifith place in the first qualifier and went on to show his strength in the second qualifier of the day. Upperman holeshotted his second qualifier and led for over a lap before Honda's John Natalie charged. Upperman went on to earn an impressive second place finish. The other second qualifier was won by Weinen. These two qualifiers earned starting position for Sunday's second main event.
When the gates dropped for Sunday's first Pro main event, Upperman was involved in a first corner incident that put him over a minute down on the pack. Upperman put his head down and moved from the last place position up to tenth by the checkers. It was an extraordinary comeback for the rookie. Honda's Keith Little earned the holeshot, but Natalie took the lead on the first lap. Natalie and Wimmer then traded positions before Natalie took the lead for good. Gust followed in third.
WPSA Round 6 Super Quad Pro 450 Results:
The second Pro main event of the day was again won by Natalie. He was followed by Suzuki's Wienen and Wimmer. Upperman had a crash which put him out of the race.
