(N.Kingsville, OH) It was nothing but fields of mud entering round five of the AMA ATVA National Motocross race held in Walnut, IL this past weekend. No one was quite sure how the track outcome would be going into Saturday morning. The track owner worked feverishly preparing the course for the riders, which turned out better than anyone did expect. Josh had qualified ninth, and on Sunday felt well and ready for the start of the race. As the gate dropped and all twenty riders charged to the first turn the #20 would find him self in the center of the pack. Josh rode his ride in tenth place and was able to gain a position but unable to find victims to his cause by time the flag waved to end the first moto.
Moto 2 was quite a turn of events for some of the top contenders in this motocross series. Josh snapped out of the gate and around the first turn in the 5th place position. Charging hard and not surrendering to anyone, Upperman had lap times that allotted him to keep up with positions one through four. With the mistake of Kawasaki rider Josh Creamer, Upperman would find himself in the forth spot and soon made a pass on Can-Am rider Cody Miller to take over third. With four laps to go it was Upperman reeling in Can-Am rider Jeremy Lawson. Josh was constantly pressuring Lawson looking for an opening to take over second. While, together hurtling over one of the biggest jumps on the track, Lawson would succumb to a malfunction and lose a tire, which put him out of the race with
only three laps left. Josh pushed forward and was able to gain some time on the 1st place rider but with only two laps left Upperman would settle for 2nd place in moto 2 and 5th place overall for the weekend.
