Honda/Baldwin Motorsports Josh Upperman takes 8th at Round 3 Nationals

(N. Kingsville, OH) Twenty-four pro riders showed up at the Ballance Moto X AMA ATV Motocross National to qualify for Sunday’s main event. Weather predictions of high winds and severe thunderstorms for Sunday were scattered all over the internet. This proved to be false and turned out to be a pleasantly sunny weekend for all attendees. Qualifying for Josh Upperman on his Honda TRX450R would be trouble-free and was able to take the sixth fastest lap time. With the spectators lining the fences, the first moto gate dropped and it was Joe Byrd on his Honda TRX450 to take the holeshot followed by Kawasaki’s Chad Weinen and then point’s leader Dustin Wimmer aboard his Suzuki. Josh came out of the gate in seventh position speeding to the first turn only to get his tire clipped by another rider, which would cause both him and his quad to flip. Finding himself in last place, Josh quickly recovered and resumed his race, catching riders one by one. When the checkered flag waved for the first moto conclusion, Josh had made his way to fifteenth place. “With twenty of the fastest riders in the world all vying for the all important holeshot and wanting to be the leader going into the first turn there’s a lot of bumping going on and none of us want to slow down. I’m glad I didn’t get hurt and was able to make up some positions,” stated, Josh.

Josh and Mark both knew that they were not going to have a great gate pick, so they had to make the best of what was remaining on the line after the first fourteen selections. Josh knowing that he had to make up for moto one finish, came out of the first turn, in mid pack, and would continue a steady pace for several laps. Riding smart, no mistakes and making passes would be the key to a top ten finish for the weekend. Josh was able to pressure riders and make passes to gain better position before time was up. At the wave of the checkered flag, #20 would find himself in the fifth place spot, which gave him eighth place, overall for the weekend. “The track was rough in some spots but the quad ran well and I’m very happy with my second moto finish I just wish moto one could have turned out different,” said Josh.
